One of the biggest things to remember is that the fragrance world is vast and personal. What works for one person might not work for another, and that’s perfectly okay. So, before you spritz, spray, or dab, let’s debunk a few myths and get to the heart of how to truly enjoy your fragrances the right way.

Here are 3 fragrance myths which you should be avoiding:

Fragrance Myth 1: Expensive Fragrances Are Always better

First off, we’ve got the idea that spending more on a fragrance instantly make the aftershave better. Whilst generally the more you spend, the higher quality the fragrance becomes, this isn’t always the case (we’re looking at you Creed). It’s easy to fall into this trap, but sometimes you’re just paying extra for the fancy branding, packaging, and marketing. There are plenty of more affordable fragrances out there that offer great performance and blend. So, don’t let a high price tag fool you into thinking it’s the best scent out there. Take the time to explore and find those hidden gems that don’t break the bank but still make you smell amazing. You might be surprised at what you discover when you look beyond the price tag.

Personally, I’ve always preferred niche fragrances more than the offerings which designer brands have. Unfortunately, these do tend to hold a higher price tag. If you, love niche but don’t want to ruin your bank balance, check out online discounters such as Allbeauty.

Fragrance Myth 2: Perfumes Will Smell The Same On Everyone

Next up is the myth that “Fragrances Smell the Same on Everyone.” This one’s pretty wild when you think about it. The idea is that a perfume will smell exactly the same on different people, but that’s just not how it works (learn more). Body chemistry, skin type, diet, and even medications can all affect how a fragrance smells on you. So, that amazing scent your friend is wearing might smell completely different on you.

You might find that some accords may smell more favorable on your skin, as well as last longer. For example, I personally find that citruses especially sparkle when used on my skin, whereas woods smell a little too earthy for my liking. Fragrances are subjective past personal preference, they are completely different on each persons skin, which is why its important to always test on skin before you make a purchase.

Another fun fact is that diet and lifestyle can play a role too. ⁤⁤Spicy foods can make your skin warmer and could change the way a fragrance develops. ⁤⁤Even something like morning coffee or the medications you take can influence how a perfume smells on you. ⁤⁤So next time you’re trying out a new scent, give it some time to settle on your skin and see how it evolves. ⁤⁤You might just find that a fragrance smells amazing on you, even if it’s a little different from how it smells on others. ⁤

FRAGRANCE Myth 3: Rubbing Wrists Together Is A Great Way To Apply Fragrance

wrists

Yes, you read that right, rubbing your wrists together is not a good way to apply fragrance, in fact, its actually quite a bad way to do it. While you may be spreading the fragrance out across your body, your actually making the fragrance last far less than how long it usually would do – you are much better off just giving your other wrist another spray!

Perfumes are blended in a specific way by the perfumer who designs the scent. Commonly fragrances will be designed in a way where the scent will change as the cologne slowly evaporates off your skin, in the fragrance world this is known as drying down. As the fragrance changes it may smell different in each the opening, mid, and the dry down. If you rub the fragrance you are mixing all of these stages up and the fragrance will some of the story. Remember when you would watch a DVD and it would randomly skip forward 10 minutes? That’s essentially what you are doing when you rub a fragrance.

Instead of rubbing it in, spray a few times evenly across your pulse points, you’ll find that the fragrance journey wont only be better, but it’ll also last much longer!
